About InHealth

The Institute for Health Technology Studies (InHealth) is the authoritative resource for knowledge and perspectives about the role of medical technology in advancing health care and quality of life for patients. InHealth, a nonprofit 501 (c) (3) organization, was founded in 2003 with unrestricted donations from leaders of the medical technology industry whose vision was to establish an independent, nonprofit organization to fund objective, peer-review quality research and analysis on the impact and value of medical devices and diagnostics.

The peer-reviewed research studies funded by InHealth are conducted at renowned academic institutions. InHealth also fulfills its mission by sponsoring educational initiatives and convening forums for discussion about critical issues, research, news and opinions.

The aging of the “Baby Boom” generation, coupled with sizable numbers of uninsured and under-insured people, is magnifying the critical issues related to health policy. In recent years, medical technology has emerged as a major factor in addressing these issues, promoting wellness and prevention, and returning patients to better health with fewer disabilities and the promise of greater productivity and longevity.

Even so, public policy makers, regulators and many within health care are not fully aware of the impact and value of innovative medical technologies. While there is significant anecdotal evidence of clinical efficiencies, improved patient outcomes, and restored productivity and quality of life, there is little independent investigation that documents these results with objective and credible evidence. Unbiased evidence showing medical technology’s role, impact and value is increasingly essential as the nation faces the challenge of paying for its growing health care bill while maintaining quality and providing access to care.

The research and education initiatives sponsored by InHealth are addressing this information vacuum, raising the level of knowledge about medical technology and enhancing prospects for informed public policy and patient health care.

InHealth is helping to ensure that there is a constructive climate for the technology innovation that our society depends on for breakthroughs in health therapies, prevention and cures.
