John W. Brown is Chairman of the Board of InHealth.
Mr. Brown retired as CEO of Stryker Corporation in 2004. After 27 years at its helm, he left behind a powerhouse medical device company. During his tenure he transformed the organization into a top-performing provider of artificial joints, implants, and surgical instruments.
Mr. Brown is a director of the American Business Conference, a coalition of Chief Executive Officers of mid-size, high-growth companies. He is also a director of St. Jude Medical, a global cardiovascular device company, and Gen-Probe, a world leader in Nucleic Acid Diagnostics for human disease. Mr. Brown also serves as a governor-appointee on the Michigan Economic Development Committee.
Mr. Brown started his career as an engineer for the Ormet Corporation, an aluminum manufacturer, and then worked on rocket propellants for the Thiokol Corporation before joining Squibb Corporation and subsequently becoming president of Edward Weck & Company, a subsidiary of Squibb. In 1977, he became president and chief executive officer of Stryker Corporation in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He was chairman of the board from 1980 through 2009 and is currently chairman emeritus.
A native of Tennessee, he is a graduate of Auburn University with a B.S. degree in chemical engineering. He is married to Rosemary Kopel Brown and they have two daughters and four grandchildren.
