Daniel Schultz, M.D. is currently the Director, Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH), and has held numerous leadership positions within the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Since joining CDRH, Dr. Schultz has served as a medical officer in the General Surgery Branch, Chief Medical Officer for the Division of Reproductive, Abdominal, and Radiological Devices (DRARD); Division Director of DRARD; Deputy Director for Clinical and Review Policy, Office of Device Evaluation; and Director, Office of Device Evaluation.
In 1983, Dr. Schultz became Chief of Surgery at the Public Health Service Indian Hospital in Santa Fe, New Mexico, served in that capacity for the eleven years. Dr. Schultz completed his general surgery residence at the Public Health Service Hospital in San Francisco and completed a fellowship in pediatric surgery in Denver, Colorado where he trained in general surgery. Board certified in general surgery and family practice, Dr. Schultz is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He entered the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service in 1974 and served a three-year assignment as a general medical officer and clinical director of the Tuba City Indian Hospital on the Navajo reservation in Arizona.
Dr. Schultz graduated from the City College of New York with a B.A. in political science. He received his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh and completed a combined internship in pediatrics and medicine at the University of New Mexico.
